Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I’m reaching out to you and asking you to support a charitable foundation, Families Unite Against ALS, that needs our help.

My friend, Dan Saunders, the president of one of TDK’s rep firms, was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), aka “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”, in 2014.   Dan passed in 2016 after a brave fight with this horrible disease, but not before raising needed awareness and also raising funds for the fight against ALS.

Families Unite Against ALS was started by Dan’s family and raises money to fund ALS research in hopes of finding a cure.  It is a recognized 501(c)(3) organization, completely driven by volunteers.  No salaries are paid, and all net profits are donated to ALS research.

Last November, I attended the Families Unite Against ALS dinner in Chicago and met Dr. Nicholas J. Maragakis from Johns Hopkins University’s ALS Center for Cell Therapy and Regeneration Research.  Dr. Maragakis worked with Dan after his diagnosis.  The funds we raise will help support his research at Johns Hopkins.

The research taking place at Johns Hopkins is performed with an eye towards translating laboratory findings directly to ALS patients.  The group is evaluating mechanisms of disease progression, developing gene therapy strategies, stem cell strategies, and designing drugs which may be beneficial to ALS patients.

I have set a goal to raise $50,000 for this foundation.
This request will not be an annual thing and I won’t be coming back at you every year for a donation.  So, no hold backs!
As some of you may have heard, I have vowed to shave my head once I reach the $50,000 goal, so please give generously this one time and help support the fight against ALS.
